CIVIL ENGINEERING OPPORTUNITIES AND CHALLENGES
Engr Shahid Iqbal Gill (Director, Faisalabad Development Authority) delivered a session to faculty and students on "Civil Engineering Opportunities and Challenges" during a seminar organized by the Department of Civil Engineering on Thursday, July 8th, 2021. In light of his 23-year experience, he emphasised the role of Civil Engineering in many areas in Pakistan and abroad. He stressed the significance of collaboration between educational institutions and the public and business sectors. It is critical for the current generation of Civil Engineers to focus on skill development by market demand; this can only be accomplished with a proper Civil Engineering Society structure that works in collaboration with graduates, consultants, contractors, and the Pakistan Engineering Council (PEC) at the same time. He further added that It would also provide many work possibilities for young engineers. The most significant difficulty now is a lack of communication between these sectors, which may be bridged by good cooperation between industry, educational institutions, and government entities and councils. He added that universities like the University of Faisalabad and other engineering universities had launched this collaboration under the Outcome-Based Education (OBE) System.
